Day Trip to History

My Book Club and I traveled to central Minnesota to visit the Runestone Museum in Alexandria. We were inspired to make the 2 and 1/2 hour drive after reading the book, The Hooked X, by Scott Wolter.

The Kennsington Rune Stone was unearthed in 1897 by a farmer, Olaf Ohlman, in rural Kennsington, MN. Since it's discovery it has been declared a hoax, a trick and sometimes an accurate artifact of an exhibition to the Americas by explorers in 1362. Recent research has proven the latter, so we wanted to see the stone on the discovery site for ourselves.
the "hooked X is visible in several places in this photo and elsewhere on the stone

After seeing the stone, we visited the rest of the Museum and saw various artifacts of Central Minnesota throughout it's settlement, as well as a one-room school house, a smokehouse and other prairie buildings moved to Fort Alexandria. Interesting ...

don't know if I need to see this!

some vintage flash cards

finally ... I've become a "real" Minnesotan!

It was interesting, so read the book and take a day trip to history!
